Reality show contestants spend year in wilderness, not told show was cancelled

In 2016, 23 individuals left for the Scottish Highlands for an incredible adventure. They would participate in an experiment where they would have to try to survive in a deserted place for a year, and the whole thing would be filmed and then broadcast as a reality show.

The show was named “Eden” and participants had to construct their own society and agree on rules and laws. They had to manage to gather or grow food, build sleeping quarters and, of course, manage to survive in these primitive conditions. In addition, they were completely cut off from all outside communication and lived on a remote 600-acre estate in the Western Highlands of Scotland.

The first four episodes of Eden aired between July and August 2016 and showed the candidates' first few days together and how they got to know each other. But then things went thoroughly wrong.

After the fourth episode aired, the show was abruptly canceled due to poor ratings, despite the experiment lasting a year.

Although the show was canceled early on, the producers did not notify the 23 participants in the experiment. They simply allowed them to continue as if the program was still airing as planned.
