Harry Potter book worth much more than estimated
Almost ended up in the trash can, this very first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Fortunately, that could just be avoided, because only five hundred copies were made of this unique first edition. And this copy got sold Saturday for quite a bit of money at the NLB Auctions auction house in Birtse Paignton.
Auctioneer Daniel Pearce found it among a deceased man's belongings, in a pile that was supposed to go into the trash. The Harry Potter book was auctioned in the United Kingdom last week for more than 25,000 euro/US dollar, more than 20.000 GBP.
Only five hundred copies of the very first edition were made in 1997. Three hundred of them ended up in British libraries, with the purpose of testing whether the story would catch on. And it is just one of those 300 books by J.K. Rowling that has now changed hands for more than 20.000 GBP.
