Trump puts new limits to tame Musk
Donald Trump held a Cabinet meeting on Thursday to emphasize that Elon Musk does not have authority over government departments, according to two officials.
The U.S. president made it clear that while the Tesla CEO can submit recommendations, he has no unilateral power over staffing decisions or policy-making.
This meeting came after a series of mass layoffs and threats directed at federal employees by Elon Musk, who was appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—an agency tasked with downsizing federal institutions.
The DOGE’s actions have faced legal challenges in U.S. courts and bipartisan criticism from lawmakers.
Elon Musk, who attended the meeting, agreed with Trump’s statement and admitted that the DOGE had made some mistakes.
