This way you keep that crispy crust on your bread

What could possibly be more delicious than bread with a crispy crust? Too bad that crust has become limp the day after. How can I make sure I keep that crispy crust?

Libelle's culinary editor gives us handy tips in the hunt for that crispy crust. “That the crust of bread quickly becomes less crispy is normal and also happens with bread from the bakery. However, you can make sure you store your homemade bread the right way so that the crust stays fresh and crispy a little longer.”

Storing bread
Make sure your bread is completely cooled before you put it in the bread bin or a sealed bread bag. If you store bread while it is still warm, condensation will form, preventing the crust from being crispy.

So always allow bread to cool completely!

Then store it in a (reusable) bread bag. You can also store the bread in a tea towel or a cotton bread bag. There are also bread bags with ventilation openings.

Making bread crusty again
“Moisten the crust of the bread a little and warm it for 5 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, at 180°C. For rolls or baguettes, 5 minutes is enough. The moisture will evaporate and the crust will become crispy again.”

Enjoy!
