Teens kill truck driver by throwing sewer cover off bridge
In mid-May, a Romanian truck driver was killed overnight on the E42 highway in Wallonia, Belgium: a sewer cover was thrown at his truck from a bridge via a rope. Four months after the events, the court hopes that a reconstruction will finally shed light on who was the real culprit.
Killed instantly, woman prevents further casualties
The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. near Héron, on the E42, in the direction of Namur. A group of youths then threw a sewer cover down from a bridge. The sewer lid went through the windshield and killed the truck driver instantly. His wife sitting next to him was able to take the wheel and stop the truck.
Throwing sewer lids: hobby of group of local youths
Four adults and two minors were arrested after the fact for their involvement in the incident. One of the four adults is still in pretrial detention. The others are under electronic monitoring. One juvenile has been placed. But who exactly threw the lid remains a mystery to this day. And the six remained silent until now about who came up with the idea and who finally threw the lid down.
The acts, first considered murders, were recharacterized as malicious traffic obstructions resulting in death. And, by the way, it turned out to be not the first time they threw a sewer lid at a truck from a bridge.
Reconstruction
The reconstruction took place on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. On Tuesday night, the six had to take turns telling what they think happened that night and who they think threw the lid. They also had to show how everything happened.
