London: Teenage girl seriously injured in possible acid attack
A 14-year-old student was seriously injured after a substance, believed to be acid, was thrown at her outside her school in West London.
The teenager was taken to the hospital, where she is being treated for potentially life-altering injuries.
Following the incident, which took place at Westminster Academy on Monday, police have launched an investigation to find the perpetrator.
A 16-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman were also injured in the attack.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Tests of the substance are ongoing. At this stage officers believe it to be acidic."
Numera Anwar, the school’s headteacher, said: "This was a distressing incident which took place after school hours when students and staff were leaving the school site."
"This is a difficult time for our community and I took the decision to close the school today to allow for a thorough investigation and to ensure the school can resume normally from tomorrow [Wednesday] with all safety measures in place," she added.
