The Kremlin senses a French threat
On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron warned of "the Russian threat" in a televised address. According to him, the danger concerns all the "countries of Europe."
His speech didn't please Russia. The country denounced Macron's proposal that Europe should be protected by the French nuclear umbrella. Moscow says it sees a "threat" in these words: "Of course, it's a threat to Russia. If he sees us as a threat" and “says that it's necessary to use nuclear weapons, to prepare to use nuclear weapons against Russia, of course it's a threat”, declared the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov, at a press conference. Lavrov went so far as describing the accusations that Moscow had any intention of attacking Europe as "delirious" and "absurd".
For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov accused the French president of wanting "the war to continue" with Ukraine, at the very time when Russia and the United States are hoping to start peace talks, reports 20 Minutes.
