Putin’s worst nightmare could become a reality

A European air force of 120 fighter jets could soon be deployed to protect Ukraine’s airspace from Russian attacks, as Vladimir Putin continues to reject the presence of European peacekeepers on the ground.

The project, named SkyShield, would be managed by Europe rather than NATO, ensuring that Moscow’s attacks are reduced without escalating into a global conflict with Russia.

Details of the initiative were revealed this Thursday, with European leaders and military officials praising the proposal.

Europe is currently seeking to increase its support for Ukraine, which has been left without U.S. assistance after Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending military aid.

While European leaders are cautious not to cross a "red line", supporters of SkyShield argue that a European-led air defense initiative avoids provoking Russia while keeping NATO uninvolved.

According to The Guardian, the air defense system would protect Ukraine’s three operational nuclear power plants, as well as the cities of Odessa and Lviv. However, border regions where heavy fighting continues will remain unprotected.
