For the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, Russia is using gas as a weapon in its hybrid war.

"Russia continues to use gas as a weapon and Moldova is once again the target of its hybrid war," the diplomat denounced on X.

Kallas had met Moldovan prime minister Dorin Recean to reaffirm the European Union's unwavering solidarity with the country.

"Thanks to the EU's support, Moldova remains resilient and well connected to European energy networks," said Kallas. Tensions continue to rise between Russia and Moldova, whose breakaway region of Transnistria fears it will run out of electricity after Russian gas supplies were cut off.

Kaja Kallas, former Prime Minister of Estonia, Russia's Baltic neighbour, has consistently stressed that the invasion of Ukraine is an existential threat to the whole of Europe.
