Trump threatens staggering 250% tariffs on dairy products from Canada
Donald Trump has threatened to impose new tariffs on Canada, including a 250% duty on dairy products and lumber imported from the country.
While the U.S. president had previously exempted some Canadian goods from tariffs, he rekindled tensions by claiming that Canada has been cheating the U.S. for years.
"We may do it as early as today, or we’ll wait until Monday or Tuesday. We’re going to charge the same thing. It’s not fair. It never has been fair, and they’ve treated our farmers badly," he said on Friday.
In response, Canada’s Trade Minister Mary Ng dismissed Trump's claims, insisting that his accusations were inaccurate.
"These tariffs, if imposed at that magnitude, are completely unjustified," she told reporters.
